Communities & Therapies - Integrated Care Service (ICARES)

Our award winning Integrated Care Service (ICARES) is a service and innovative approach to managing adults with long term conditions irrespective of their diagnosis, location or age. Here, you’ll work with a whole range of dedicated professionals from Elderly Care & Primary Care Co-ordinators and Home Accident Prevention Officers to Rehab Support Workers and Alcohol Case Management, to Therapists, Physiotherapists and Clinical Leaders.

Communities & Therapies – iBed

Why should you join our iBed team?

The iBed team offers the best of both worlds – integrated community services in a hospital setting. You’ll work closely with GPs and social workers, so we’ll look to you to take the lead on patient care. The community hospital bed base has grown a lot over the last couple of years, so have the opportunities to specialise and focus your career development. Whatever you’re truly passionate about, we’ll bring your ambitions to life.

Which location is right for you?

You can choose to work across all three locations in rotation or be primarily based at one site. It’s up to you. We’re flexible and want to find out what works best for you.

Rowley Regis

Across three wards, you’ll focus on holistic nursing. Working in a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll take a softer approach building relationships with older patients, achieving functional recovery rather than relying solely on drugs and procedures. You’ll have an excellent support network with coaching and guidance from passionate Band 6 Nurses.

Leasowes

The jewel in the crown of Communities & Therapies, this purpose built site has 20 single rooms which has adopted the travel lodge model. Here, you’ll help patients transition from acute to convalescent care. We have two end of life beds which means you’ll be able to work closely with hospices and provide thoughtful palliative care as well.

City Hospital

Set in a great location, we have two refurbished wards - MedFit and Rehab. If you’re looking for a rewarding challenge, this is it. Working closely with Social Care, you’ll get each pathway right. In fact, you’ll help to find the balance between medicine and treatment that works best for each individual patient.

Medicine & Emergency - Emergency Care

Why should you join our Emergency Care team?

Firstly, if you’re powered by adrenaline, passion and determination, this is the place for you. Emergency Care isn’t for the faint hearted. As a Nurse you expect every shift to be different, here every moment is different, but your comprehensive training will reflect that.

Secondly, we’re the only Trust in the region that enables you to rotate across two very different A&E departments. City A&E is a specialist in cardiology, whereas Sandwell A&E has specialities in surgical, stroke and trauma. In both departments, you’ll take an innovative approach to patient care using the ambulatory model and work closely with multiple specialities to manage patient flow. Medicine & Emergency - Admitted Care

The scheduled care team encompasses the management of both acute and chronic conditions in a vast variety of areas such as endoscopy, outpatients, medical day case, theatres and alongside our community care colleagues. The Scheduled care team work tirelessly with various members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality care and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

Surgery – Critical Care

Critical Care provides excellent support to band 5’s looking to enhance their career by gaining experience in acute Care. We have a structured development programme led by our Professional Development nurse and strong clinical band 7 tier .New starters receive 6weeks supernumerary time fully supported by excellent mentors. Once completed you will commence your module training which takes care of your first two years training and development.

We provide Critical Care across two sites but work as one service with all staff rotating within a professional team to ensure your support follows you .In addition we have an outstanding Critical Care Outreach and Follow Up Support Service.

Surgery – Theatres

Why should you join our Theatres team?

As a theatre Practitioner you will provide high quality patient centred care reflecting the beliefs outlined in the Theatre philosophy. The practitioner will act as an advocate for patients.

You will rotate within theatre to gain experience in all theatre areas including Scrub and Recovery with the opportunity to gain a qualification in Anaesthetics. You will get the opportunity to rotate cross-site as well as by specialty on a planned basis.  We are fully committed to your staff development with a structured professional development team within Theatres.  You will participate in elective surgery for all specialties excluding Cardiology.  We provide 24/7 cover for emergencies and maternity.  If you thrive on no day being the same theatres is for you!

Women’s & Children’s – Paediatrics

Why should you join our Paediatrics team?

Our acute paediatric unit currently consists of an inpatient ward with HDU capacity, an adolescent unit and two Paediatric Assessment Unit’s that are presently positioned on two sites (Sandwell Hospital and City Hospital). We also deliver out-patient and medical and surgical day case activity on both sites.  There is a planned rotation, with supporting competency outcomes, for all staff to allow them the opportunity to develop in all areas of acute paediatric care.

All of our services will move to the brand new Midland Metropolitan Hospital (MMH, opening October 2018): a hospital where superheroes are not only the theme within our paediatric unit but the way we view every member of staff within our team.

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals are proud to be striving towards being recognised as the best integrated Trust within the West Midlands, with our paediatric directorate being made up of both acute and community teams, inclusive of children’s therapy services for community. This integrated service delivery facilitates the development and improvement of pathways between community and acute services to provide seamless care for children and their families.  It also allows for staff to rotate across acute and community nursing teams if they wish to do so.

To support us in achieving this objective, we are now seeking to appoint a Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Urgent Care.

Our new Deputy Chief Operating Officer structure offers an opportunity with real scope to influence future clinical service provision. The key priorities for the Deputy COO for Urgent Care over the next three years include preparedness for the move to the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital in line with our 2020 vision. This will include one of the largest emergency departments in the county as well as a new urgent care centre at Sandwell. The Deputy COO for Urgent Care will be operationally responsible for the new hospital in its future state and will lead in designing 7 day services and aligning workforce models towards that future state. The post holder is the operational lead for emergency planning and in addition will lead on strategic project across the organisation and the wider health economy.

We are seeking an innovative, inspirational and committed leader to reform, and to deliver success in, our urgent care service. With a passion for patient centred care, you will have a proven track record of achieving high quality outcomes for patients and delivering performance standards. The ability to operate at all levels to engage, lead, inspire and deliver is essential. You will be a clear, persuasive communicator and negotiator with the ability to build internal and external stakeholder relationships. As a resilient leader, you must be able to make difficult decisions and remain calm in emergency situations. A strong background in change management and the ability to develop high performing teams is required. Understanding that our future is subtly and significantly different to what we do now, an ability to communicate that empathetically will be vital; making it happen at pace is essential.
